Residents’ Charter

Every St.Margaret’s resident has the right to expect the following:

• To be treated with respect and dignity by all members of staff with protection from embarrassment, ridicule and patronage.
• To have privacy, independence and choice, subject only to safety.
• To have a closed door opportunity with entrance by permission only.
• To be cared for by appropriately skilled staff.To have their call bells answered within 3 minutes.
• To be given clear explanation of any treatment or care procedure in a way that is understood and mutually agreed.
• To have their best interest decision made for them, if necessary, by a suitably qualified member of staff or Advocate for health and well being if they lack the mental capacity to make their own decisions.
• To live in a homely yet clean, comfortable, odour free and safe environment.
• To have their wishes respected concerning emotional, social, religious, cultural, political and sexual needs met.
• To feel and be treated as a valued member of the Home by participating and contributing to Residents’ Meetings, Activities and all other communal aspects of the Home without the fear of becoming isolated.
• To be involved in the selection of your GP, Dentist or other health professional and to be able to consult with them in private.
• To be aware of the Home’s complaint procedure and of the opportunity to be represented should this be required.
• To have a Key Worker assigned on admission and to be involved in the selection of a replacement at any time or when the Key Worker designation is reviewed.
• To have access to their health care records, to be able to read contribute and sign where practicable with the member of staff involved in updating their person centered care plan.
• To know that staff are under a duty to keep all matters confidential unless prior consent has been gained and in accordance with data protection legislation.
